Cecelia (Cecilja) Bernadette Shaw, 88 of Marshfield, passed away on Friday, June 24th, 2022, at the Clark County Rehab & Living Center.

A Catholic Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Keith Kitzhaber, will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 1st, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield, WI. Cecelia will be laid to rest at the Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in the town of Richfield, Wood County. Visitations will be held from 4-8 PM Thursday, June 30th, 2022, at Rembs Funeral Home and from 10 AM until service on Friday, July 1st, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Cecelia was born in Greenwood on August 17th, 1933, to Frank and Mary (Remzgar) Gosar. Cecelia was proud of her Slovenian heritage, speaking the language at a young age with her parents – who emigrated from Yugoslavia and settled in America. She further enjoyed making traditional Slovenian dishes, pastries and bread and attending heritage and polka festivals throughout her life. Cecelia was a graduate of Greenwood High School in 1951. She had always wanted to go to college to become a schoolteacher but placed family before everything – taking care of siblings after her mother became ill and continued caring for them throughout her life. Working as a waitress in Neillsville, WI, she met Elton Shaw. They joined in marriage shortly thereafter on January 29th, 1955, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Later that year, they founded Shaw’s Wrecking Yard, to which they dedicated the rest of their lives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. Near the end of her life, Cecelia remained an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles. Most of all, she valued the time spent with her family and her dogs.

Along with her parents, Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband Elton Shaw (d. 2012), her siblings Mary Artac, Tony Gosar, Sister Antonia (Frances) Gosar, Sophie Trunkel, Anne Sladich, Julia Kuznacic and Frank Gosar.

Cecelia is survived by her sister, Angela Stroinski; her four children, Joan (David) Boehning, Jean Shaw, Theresa Shaw and Thomas (Betty) Shaw; her grandchildren Nichole, Jacob (Becca), Josh (Nathalia) and Lukas (Emily) Boehning, Denise (Michael) Lindau, Anita (José) Toto Seba and Jared Burkart, Zachary (Megan) Shaw and Cecily (Andy) Blume; and her great-grandchildren Elodie and Charlie Boehning, Cameron, Finley and Annabelle Boehning, Penelope, Florence and Cosmo Boehning, Natalie and Max Lindau and Linda Toto Lara.

The Shaw Family would like to thank the staff at the Clark County Rehab & Living Center and the hospice caregivers that assisted her during the end of her life.
