Barbara E. Wirtz

Barbara E. Wirtz, 87, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. Keith Kitzhaber and Deacon Ray Draeger officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, at a later date and serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Richard Wirtz III, David Wirtz, Joseph Hastreiter, Thomas Hastreiter, Benjamin Wirtz, Luke Wirtz, Chase Wirtz and Grant Wirtz. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until service time on Saturday at church.

Barbara was born on February 19, 1934, in Wisconsin Rapids to Paul and Genevieve (Godon) Grosklaus and was a 1952 graduate of Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. She married Richard J. Wirtz on June 12, 1954, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. He passed away on December 27, 2017.

Barbara worked at Finer Foods in Wisconsin Rapids, Kmart, and Figi’s. She enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds, traveling in the southeastern states, volunteering at nursing homes, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and St. Vincent de Paul, visiting elderly in their homes, and cheering on the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Richard J. Wirtz II of Green Bay, Douglas (Joyanne) Wirtz of Marshfield, Pamela (Louis) Hastreiter of Sun Prairie, Mark (Thomas Rodehau) Wirtz of Falls Church, Virginia, Patricia Wirtz of Marshfield, and Matthew (Amy) Wirtz of Spencer. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Helen (Ray) Toelle, and sister-in-law, Judy Grosklaus.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, a grandson, Daniel Wirtz, and brother, Paul Grosklaus.

Memorials may be designated to the Sacred Heart building fund.
