Newman Volleyball Battles Top Competition at Kettle Moraine Tourney

Newman Volleyball competed at the Kettle Moraine Volleyball Tournament in Milwaukee on Saturday 9/10.  There was a total of sixteen teams that participated with host Kettle Moraine winning the Championship.

Newman Catholic Cardinals Volleyball Schedule

Each team played pool play matches before being placed in the Gold or Silver bracket based on results after pool play.
Newman Catholic beat Whitewater 2-1 with scores of 25-23, 23-25 & 15-13, beat The Prairie School 2-0 scores were 25-20, 25-16.
Newman Catholic was seeded #5 overall after pool play and competed in the Gold bracket with seven other teams-Arrowhead, Dominican, Muskego, Whitewater, Kettle Moraine, Appleton East and Verona.
In bracket play the Cards were defeated 1-2 by Muskego 11-25, 25-23, 9-15
In their final match of the tournament, they battled Dominican in a three set match and won 2-1 with scores of 12-15, 15-16, 15-13
Stat leaders for the tournament were:
  • Kills – Lily Shields 20, Ashley Jankowski 15, Camille Sobolewski 15,
  • Aces – Lily Shields 5, Paige Guld 2,
  • Digs – Grace Carlson 40, Lily Shields 26,
  • Assists – Paige Guld 34, Lily Shields 26
Our top hitting % was Camille Sobolewski .379% and Annika Svennes .308%
Again, Really great competition all day that gave the players all an opportunity to improve each match. They played composed, competitive and kept getting more confident throughout the day.  They came back from being down in multiple sets which really showed their grit and fight.
