(OnFocus) Multiple deceased pets were discovered in a Nekoosa home after an anonymous complaint Tuesday led police to the scene.

The Nekoosa Police Department responded to a report that two dogs were abandoned at a 2nd Street home, according to a press release. Two pit bull type dogs were barking inside the home upon arrival. Officers learned that an 11-year-old neighbor boy had periodically been feeding the dogs since the owners had been absent for two weeks. The boy had also observed a deceased cat inside the home.

Upon entry, the two dogs were detained by South Wood County Humane Society. Multiple deceased pets were found including a cat, rabbit, snake, and fish. Feces was in every room and the thermostat was off, with home temperature of 36 degrees.

The owners of the animals were Dallas J. McKinney, 22, and Jessica R. Ramos, 30, who are now living in Miiladore. Both told officers they periodically checked on the animals over the last several weeks. However, no food or water was found in the home. A veterinarian determined the cat and rabbit had likely died of dehydration and starvation.

McKinney and Ramos were taken into custody and face numerous charges related to animal abandonment and mistreatment. They appeared in court Wednesday and received a $2,500 signature bond pending further court proceedings.
