Neilsville/Greenwood/Loyal Wrestler Luke Dux Claims Title, OnFocus Athlete of the Week, February 7 – February 13

Neillsville (OnFocus) – It was a three-way race for the top spot in the OnFocus Athlete of the Week, February 7 – February 13.

Picking up first place was Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal wrestler Luke Dux with 437 votes.

Second place went to Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln wrestler Brett Back, collecting 336 votes.

Third place went to Makayla Ulrich of Medford Gymnastics, who had 311 votes.

Fourth place went to Raife Smart of Stratford with 128 votes, and fifth place was earned by Makenna Guden, collecting 66 votes.

OnFocus Athlete of the Week Nominees, February 7 – February 13

• Luke Dux, Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal Wrestling – Dux earned a second place finish at the WIAA State Wrestling Meet. Dux earned a pair of decisions at 113 pounds before falling to two-time champion Rhett Koenig.
• Makenna Guden, Edgar Girls Basketball– Guden came up big for Edgar as the Wildcats advanced to sectionals with a pair of wins. Guden had 28 points, including six three-pointers in Edgar’s  58-46 regional semifinal win over Spencer. The senior guard then scored 23 points as Edgar defeated Marathon 50-35 in the regional final.
• Raife Smart, Stratford Wrestling – Smart earned a second place finish at the WIAA State Wrestling Meet. Smart earned major decisions at 195, in his first two matches before falling in the finals.
• Makayla Ulrich, Medford Gymnastics – Ulrich claimed the All-Around title at the GNC Conference Meet, taking titles on the bars and balance beam. She also took second on the floor exercise and third on the vault.
• Brett Back, Wisconsin Rapids Wrestling – Back had an outstanding debut as a freshman at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament. Back finished 3rd at 145, and looks poised to return to state in the coming years.
