Name of Victim, Cause of Monday Fire Released

MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department released the name of the victim of a fatal fire incident that occurred at the victim’s home on Monday, Jan. 24.

Herman John Greuel, 62, was found inside the residence at the time of the fire and was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.

The cause of the fire on January 24th at 3401 Frey Court, Lot 20 that took the life of Greuel was the result of an overloaded electrical extension cord.

In a statement, the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department warned citizens to not overload an extension cord with a portable space heater.

“The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department would like to remind all home occupants to never use an extension cord with a portable space heater, maintain a clearance of at least three feet to any combustibles, and ensure working smoke detectors are in your home,” the department said.
