Mosinee was looking up in the standings at Rhinelander for the Great Northern Conference lead. Rhinelander is the reigning conference champion and will be a strong side everywhere on the field. With Conference standings tight, the players came into the game with a lot of emotion.

The game started in Rhinelander’s favor. Using a strong midfield presence, the Hodags moved the ball down the right flank and created scoring opportunities. The Mosinee defense handled the pressure, but the return attack did not immediately happen. After some shuffling of personnel, Mosinee switched the pressure to the Rhinelander end. When the goal finally cracked open, it led to two tallies.  In a connection that has consistently delivered all year, Cole Holtz sent a direct kick to Toren Holtz who finished it at 29”. Then just one minute later Greyde Rogers finished a rebound off of the keeper from another Toren Holtz shot. The halftime score was Mosinee 2, Rhinelander 0.

It is easy to let off a game with a two-goal lead, but that was not the case this evening. Just five minutes into the second half Toren Holtz chipped the keeper off of a Cole Holtz assist making it 3-0 Mosinee. The final goal was a stunner: Toren took a direct kick about 30 yards out and placed it perfectly in the upper corner. With a 4-goal lead, the game settled down considerably from the start. Both teams had opportunities, but Mosinee never gave up control.
