Merrill came to Mosinee for a non-conference matchup. The game was firmly in Mosinee’s favor from the start, and some new players stepped up in the win.

To open the game, Mosinee used combination plays to create space in the Merrill defense. Thomas Miller took advantage of the space, just 2 minutes into the game, assisted by Jaeger Dhein. After the initial shock Merrill settled in and created some opportunities for themselves, and for the next stretch the game was played on even terms. When the clock rolled into the 15th minute, the game shifted into Mosinee’s favor. First Toren Holtz scored an unassisted goal, then Jaeger Dhein scored just 15 seconds later off a Toren Holtz assist. Dhein got rolling from that moment and tallied two more goals in the next 4 minutes..

Merrill stopped the attack by getting their own goal, but any momentum was short lived. Dhein added another at 31”, assisted by Grant Kuklinski. This was followed by the goal of the game. Garret Donohue dribbled across the top of the penalty area and pulled the trigger on a laser shot off his left foot. The Merrill keeper made an attempt, but there was no stopping the goal. Toren Holtz got back on the score sheet with a goal, assisted by Dhein. The score at halftime was Mosinee 8, Merrill 1.

In the second half Merrill got on the scoreboard first at 51”. Mosinee put any thought of a comeback to rest with a goal by Grant Kuklinski, assisted by Toren Holtz, and then Toren got the final goal of the game. Toren Holtz filled up the score sheet with 3 goals and 3 assists. Jaeger Dhein had the highest scoring game of his career with 4 goals along with two assists to lead the Mosinee scoring binge.

Mosinee outshot Merrill 22-2 on the night.

At halftime Mosinee recognized the city leaders that make Edgewood Field possible. Through the years the City of Mosinee has been one of the leading advocates of Mosinee Soccer. Foresight by city leaders set aside land for the fields as well as ongoing support for keeping the field updated. Mayor Brent Jacobson spoke and thanked the variety of organizations that have come together to help make Edgewood Park what it is today.
