Clintonville got the opening kickoff at Edgewood Field, but that was the only time they touched it before it hit the back of their net. Mosinee ambushed the Truckers, took the ball to the penalty area where Toren Holtz finished the Caden Schmirler assist just 14 seconds into the game! It ended up being the start to a great night for the Mosinee midfielder.

The shock wore off quickly, however, with the speedy Nicolas Edwards worked the ball down to Mosinee’s end and ripped a shot, glancing the ball off the post. It was a physical game with multiple players on the ground following hard tackles. The two teams were evenly matched for much of the first half. However, one foul was a bit too hard and Mosinee earned a free kick just 20 yards out of the goal.

Toren took the direct kick and slipped it past the Clintonville keeper. Score at halftime was Mosinee 2, Clintonville 0.

Mosinee started briskly in the second half, creating opportunities in the Trucker end. A difference maker for Mosinee was Garrett Donohue. Through aggressive challenges on 50/50 balls, deft passing, and using his body as a shield, Garrett’s presence led to multiple opportunities for Mosinee, even if his name didn’t show up in the score sheet. Cole Holtz took one of Garrett’s steals and dished a pass to the cutting Toren Holtz.

Just 5 minutes into the half Mosinee had moved ahead, 3-0. Clintonville could have surrendered at that point, but they kept their pressure up. Edwards pushed the ball up and gave the ball back to Victor Luciano, edging closer, 3-1. It felt closer than that, with the ball moving quickly from sideline to sideline. What turned out to be the defining goal of the game came on a corner kick. Cole Holtz sent his kick on a perfect trajectory to a deep Toren Holtz who headed it into the net, with just 12 minutes left in the game. Toren finished the night with 4 goals! Clintonville’s attack switched to a more desperate style that left open a counterattack and Cole Holtz sent a Garrett Donohue pass with force from distance, finishing the scoring at Mosinee 5, Clintonville 1.

Mosinee keeper Keaton Wieloch finished with 4 saves.
Clintonville keeper Caleb Moore finished with 5 saves.
