Mosinee Boys Come Back to Defeat Marathon

Marathon would make the 13 mile trip to Mosinee to battle on the hardwoods, Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Trailing by three at the half, Mosinee fought back to pick up a 62-53 nonconference win.

Mosinee would strike first with a pair of threes from Keagen Jirschele and Drake Grod and then work inside Marathon’s 1-3-1 zone to get out to a quick 14-2 lead in the first five and a half minutes. Kyle Miller make a bucket after Mosinee went on a 3-minute scoring drought, Mosinee is still up 16-9. Marathon would score on their next 8 possessions with 7 points by Grant Warren in the paint with an and-one, Nathan Hanke and Jade Koeller would each hit a three and score inside, and Tyler Underwood would hit a three, while Davin Stoffel of Mosinee would throw down a two-handed dunk in traffic, 29-27 Marathon. Marathon would have a 33-30 halftime lead.

Mosinee would start the second half a little slow, getting an inside bucket by Trenton Dorn a minute into the half, 33-32 Marathon. Marathon would extend their lead to 8 points before Mosinee would start to chip away the lead with high-intensity defense leading to steals and run-outs for Jirschele, Dorn, Trevor Garski, Evan Utphall, and Kyle Miller.
Mosinee would tie up Marathon at 42 all with 10 minutes left in the game. Mosinee would keep Marathon from scoring for their next 6 possessions while scoring 7 points of their own. Mosinee would give up only 6 field goals in the second half while forcing 14 turnovers for Marathon and got another 18 stops on the night.
Keagen Jirschele (2FG 5-5, 3FG 3-3) and Trevor Garski (2FG 3-3, 3FG 1-1) were both perfect from the floor on the night.

Mosinee scoring: Grod 9, Utphall 4, Garski 9, Dorn 10, Kowalski 3, Jirschele 15, Miller 6, Thomer 1, Stoffel 5
