As reported by mlb.com reporter Mark Feinsand, Major League Baseball and the MLB Player’s Association had a bargaining session on Thursday.

Collective bargaining discussions have  been infrequent, and this meeting included proposals from both sides, the first in almost six weeks.

Suggested by  the league:
  • significant increases for players with 2+ years
  • best players earning more in bonuses tied to performance
  • provide incentives to teams for including top prospects on Opening Day rosters
  • adjust MLB Draft order process
  • postseason expansion
  • universal designated hitter
  • NBA-style draft lottery
  • increase to player minimum salary
  • removal of draft-pick compensation from all free agents

MLB had also offered a 14-team postseason format in a proposal that would have increased the CBT threshold from $210 million to $214 million, eventually climbing as high as $220 million. The union’s most recent proposal prior to the lockout called for a $245 million CBT threshold and an expanded postseason format that included 12 teams.
