McMillan Marsh Murder Suspects Charged in Court, Cash Bond Set

OnFocus – Jared Carl (20), Shawn Carl (50), and Audrey Benson (20) were formally charged today in Wisconsin/Marathon County Circuit Court in connection with the alleged murder of Christian Schauer (20).

Jared Carl was charged with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide (Felony A), taking and driving a vehicle without consent (Felony H), Possession of THC w/intent (Felony I), and resisting/obstructing an officer (Misd A). Cash bond of $1 million was set. He is not allowed to have contact with the victim’s family or the defendants in the case. A review hearing is scheduled for March 12 and a preliminary hearing for March 17.

Shawn Carl was charged with harboring/aiding a felon/falsifying information (Felony G) and resisting or obstructing an officer (Misd A). Bond was set at $50,000. He also is not allowed to have contact with the victim’s family or the defendants in the case. A review hearing is scheduled for March 12 and a preliminary hearing for March 17.

Benson was charged with two felonies: Hiding a Corpse (as party to a crime) and Harboring/Aiding a Felon. $75,000 signature bond was set, with the first $15,000 needing to be in cash. She also is not allowed to have contact with the victim’s family or the defendants in the case. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 17.

Schauer’s body was found in the McMillan Marsh in the Town of Spencer in December. Jared initially told investigators that his father, Shawn, shot Schauer. Prosecutors requested more time to investigate when Benson later stated to investigators that Jared Carl shot Schauer.
