Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) Marshfield’s “Dumpster Puppies” are once again in the national spotlight, this time being featured on CBS’ “Inside Edition” program.

The New York City-based investigative team of chief investigative correspondent Lisa Guerrero and investigative producer Charlie McLravy visited Marshfield Area Pet Shelter on April 1 to interview MAPS Executive Director Karen Rau and Mark Theobald, the door-to-door salesman who first found the puppies in a dumpster when they were just hours old. They also spoke with Marshfield Police Chief Rick Gramza and Humane Officer Bob Larsen about the case.

“The alarming news of newborn puppies found in the garbage obviously impacted many people across the country,” said MAPS Executive Director Karen Rau. “It is outstanding that a mega media outlet like Inside Edition felt it was important to bring awareness to animal abandonment and abuse and that we could be a part of it.”

The puppies will be featured as part of a story that will highlight abandoned dogs and cats in order to help raise awareness about the issue on a national level.

“After watching the program, I hope viewers get involved to implement stronger laws in their areas to protect animals and help enforce stricter penalties against animal abusers,” said Rau. “We also wanted to bring awareness to why it is important to spay and neuter pets and support local humane societies/shelters.”

Inside Edition is the longest-running syndicated-newsmagazine program that is not strictly focused on entertainment news, and features a mix of hard-news stories, entertainment news and gossip, scandals, true-crime stories, and lifestyle features. This is the first time MAPS has been featured on a program of this magnitude.

“The opportunity to speak on behalf of innocent animals was uplifting,” said Rau. “It was our moment to reiterate that it is everyone’s responsibility to advocate for animals and to report any signs of distress involving animals.”

The program is scheduled to air Wednesday, April 24 (tomorrow) at 6:30pm CST on CBS.
