SPORTSDESK – Marshfield’s Jenna Jakobi and Katie Osinski both had career high point totals as the Marshfield Tigers took down the Hudson Raiders in the opening game of the Marshfield Holiday Classic.

Jakobi scored 25 points on 6 of 9 shooting and also capitalized on her trips to the free throw line, sinking 13 of 17. Katie Osinski contributed 19, including 6 consecutive points in the second half, helping to power the Tigers past the Raiders. It was a close game in the second half until Osinski swished back-to-back 12 foot jumpers and then capped her 6 point run with a layup, assisted by Jakobi. Marshfield’s lead catapulted from 39-36 to 45-36  with 10:44 left in the second half and the Tigers never looked back.

Jakobi made 13 free throws to account for over half of her scoring and said that free throws are a big part of practice. “I have my good days and my bad days (free throw shooting)”, said Jakobi, “coach does emphasize our free throws because that’s what does win games”. Jakobi also has her mind on the team rather than personal stats. “I don’t really pay attention to stats, I just play my best and do what’s best for my team”, remarked Jakobi post game.

The Tigers take on Wausau West today at Boson Company Fieldhouse in Marshfield in the championship game. Tip is scheduled for 3:15pm. You can also watch the game right here, at www.focusonmarshfield.com/sports
