OnFocus – After being made aware of a recent phone scam circulating the area, Marshfield Utilities (MU) is reminding customers that their office will never demand payments over the phone.
“We were made aware of a customer receiving a call from someone saying they were with MU,” said Melissa Barnes, MU. “They told the customer that their account was past due and to avoid disconnection they needed to make a payment immediately with them. Thankfully the customer was savvy and asked questions first! When the customer said they would call MU directly, the caller hung up.”
Barnes added that MU will not call customers and demand payment be made over the phone, and if ever in question about a call, customers should hang up and call MU directly at 715-387-1195.
