Marshfield Senior Legion drops twinbill at Antigo

ANTIGO – The Marshfield Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Antigo, losing 7-3 and 8-7, on Wednesday night at Kretz Park.

The Blue Devils drop to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in Wisconsin Valley Legion League play. Antigo is now 9-5 overall and 6-1 in league play.

In the opener, A.J. Kirsch and Nick Marshall had back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth to put Antigo up 2-0.

Marshfield responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on a two-out RBI single by Ty Pankratz, but Antigo came back with five runs over the next three innings to take control.

Kirsch had an RBI double in the fifth and a solo home run in the seventh to lead the way.

Marshfield scored its final two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Cole Hediger had a sacrifice fly and Isaiah Baierl had an RBI single, but the rally stopped there.

Antigo earned a walk-off win in Game 2, rallying from a 7-2 deficit by scoring three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Mason Coffren and Riley Boushack had RBI singles in the third inning to put the Blue Devils up 2-0.

After Antigo rallied to tie the game, Marshfield scored twice in the fifth on an RBI single by Boushack and an RBI groundout by Ben Gust.

The Blue Devils went up 7-2 with a three-run sixth. Coffren had a two-run double and later scored on a passed ball.

Cody Urban hit a two-run homer and Eric Langseth had an RBI single in the sixth to bring Antigo to within two at 7-5.
Marshall tied it in the seventh with a two-run double and scored on a bun single by Bob Brauer.

Marshfield plays at D.C. Everest on Thursday before heading to the Green Bay Southwest Tournament this weekend. The Blue Devils will take on Fond du Lac at 4:30 p.m. and Southwest at 7 p.m. Friday, then will play Sheboygan at noon and Fond du Lac again at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The top two teams in each pool division move on to the semifinals on Sunday.
