Marshfield Senior Legion drops pair at Manitowoc Triangular

MANITOWOC – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion Senior baseball team is still looking for its first win on the young season and after being swept the Manitowoc Triangular on Sunday.

Marshfield lost to host Manitowoc 6-1 and to De Pere 5-4 to fall to 0-3 this season.

Against Manitowoc, Marshfield scored its only run against Manitowoc pitcher Noah Jaquart in the sixth. Mason Coffren doubled, went to third on a fly ball, and scored on an errant throw on the play.

Jaquart went the distance for Manitowoc, allowing six hits and four walks while striking out three.

Manitowoc scored all six of its runs in the first three innings against Marshfield starter Cole Hediger. Tragen Bogdonovich came in the fourth inning in relief and tossed three shutout innings for the Blue Devils.

Isaiah Baierl had two hits in the loss for Marshfield.

Marshfield led 4-1 against De Pere heading into the bottom of the seventh before De Pere scored four times to grab the walk-off win.

The game was scoreless heading into the fifth before Jaeger Johnson delivered an RBI single to score Monte Diestler to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead.

Marshfield made it 2-0 in the sixth. Coffren singled, stole second and scored on a single by Preston Wagner.

After De Pere scored once in the sixth, knocking out Marshfield starter Will Voss after a stellar outing, the Blue Devils added two runs in the seventh.

Bogdonovich scored on a balk and Riley Boushack doubled home Isaiah Baierl, who had walked, to put Marshfield up 4-1.

Wagner, who relieved Voss, hit two batters, walked two more and allowed a two-run single to Ethan Susa to end the comeback for De Pere.

Marshfield’s next game is at Stevens Point on Tuesday. The game, at Bukolt Park, begins at approximately 7:30 p.m. following the Junior Legion game.
