Marshfield Junior Legion splits pair at D.C. Everest

WESTON – The Marshfield Post 54 Junior American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader at D.C. Everest on Monday night, winning the opener 4-1 before dropping the second game 5-3.

In the first game, Marshfield built a 3-0 lead and held on from there as Logan Homolka and Chase Higgins limited D.C. Everest to just one run and four hits.

Homolka earned the win, striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings, with Higgins picking up the save with three strikeouts in a spotless 1 1/3 innings.

Trey Montalvo and Ky Swanson each had two hits, and Will Fetting had two RBIs in the win for Marshfield.

The Blue Devils led Game 2 3-1 after 5½ innings, but couldn’t seal the deal this time.

D.C. Everest plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held Marshfield to just four hits.

Nick Urban, Riley Bauman, Parker Weik and Cole Timmler all had singles for the Blue Devils, with Weik and Bauman accounting for RBIs.

Marshfield (12-3, 6-3 Wisconsin Valley Legion League) hosts Antigo for a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field. The Blue Devils will then be in action Wednesday at Wausau at 5 p.m., with the Senior Legion game to follow.
