Marshfield Junior Legion loses two to Plover, recovers with win at Stevens Point

The Marshfield Post 54 Junior American Legion baseball team dropped a pair of games to Plover on Monday but responded with a big win at Stevens Point on Wednesday.

Marshfield lost both games of a doubleheader at home against Plover 8-3 and 7-5, before coming back to rout Stevens Point 14-4 at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point on Wednesday.

Marshfield had six hits in the Game 1 loss to Plover, two each by Riley Bauman and Logan Homolka. Adam Zee and Chase Higgins each had RBIs for the Blue Devils.

In Game 2, Marshfield scored three times in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5 before Plover struck for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the win and improve to 15-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League.

Peter Earll went 3-for-4 with a double, and Bauman had two hits and an RBI for Marshfield.

Marshfield busted open Wednesday’s game against Stevens Point with a 10-run third inning and ended it after five via the 10-run rule.

Will Fetting tossed a five-inning complete game to earn the win, striking out four.

Homolka went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, and Parker Weik and Trey Montalvo each had two hits in the victory for the Blue Devils (17-5, 10-5 WVLL). Montalvo had three RBIs, and Earll knocked in two runs for Marshfield.

Marshfield finishes its regular-season schedule at home Thursday against Stevens Point. The game is part of a Junior-Senior doubleheader that starts at 4:30 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field.

Marshfield will begin play in the Wisconsin 17U Junior Legion Regional No. 2 at Nekoosa on Friday. The Blue Devils will play Holmen at 4 p.m. If they win, they play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with a win, Marshfield plays Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
