Marshfield High School AP Program Receives Distinction

AP Program Cuts College Costs for Students

Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) Marshfield High School’s Advanced Placement (AP) program once again received the Pacesetter Award with Level 1 distinction for the 2017-18 school year. A total of 23 Wisconsin schools earned the distinction this year.

To achieve Level 1 status, 30 percent of students must take at least one exam, and 70 percent must earn a score of 3 or above.

During the 2017-18 school year, 989 exams were taken by 37 percent of the student population. This past school year 865 tests were taken, making it likely the school will earn the distinction again next year. A total of 29 AP courses are offered at the high school.

“Marshfield High School has a had a long history of academic excellence and our AP Program has a been a major part of that foundation,” said Dan Dargenio, AP Data Analyst.

The AP program began building momentum with students about fifteen years ago and has been recognized multiple times.

“Although we have received this award for the past several years, it once again illustrates that the Marshfield School District remains dedicated to the academic success of students year in a year out, and that a robust AP program is an integral part of the high school for students who are pursuing post-secondary education,” said Dargenio.

Since students are able to earn college credit at a fraction of the cost, the AP program is estimated to save Marshfield families $1.3 million each year.
