CLEVELAND – Daulton Varsho, a 2014 graduate of Marshfield High School and a player in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, took part in the MLB All-Star Futures Game on Sunday at Progressive Field, part of the three-day of activities leading up to Tuesday’s Major League All-Star Game.

Varsho, a catcher for the Jackson (Miss.) Generals, a Class AA team in Arizona’s minor leagues, played for the National League team at the Futures Game, which features some of the top prospects of each of the Major League organizations.

Varsho went 0-for-3 as the NL’s designated hitter in the game, which ended after eight innings a 2-2 tie. He had a pair of pop-outs and a strikeout.

Varsho, a native of the Town of Chili who celebrated his 23rd birthday on July 2, has played in 69 games this season for Jackson and is batting .268 (67-for-250) with nine home runs, 35 RBIs, 47 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples, and 10 stolen bases.

In his last two games for Jackson prior to departing for the game in Cleveland, Varsho went 2-for-5 with a run scored on July 4 and 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on July 5 at Chattanooga (Tenn.). Jackson will continue a six-game series at Chattanooga on Monday and Tuesday, and return home for a six-game series against Birmingham (Ala.) on Thursday.
