MARSHFIELD – Four different players scored as the Marshfield girls soccer team dominated play and shut out Ashwaubenon 4-0 in a nonconference game Monday at Griese Park.

The win pushes Marshfield’s record back to the .500 mark at 5-5-1 overall. The Tigers (2-3-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) will try to get back to an even record in conference play Thursday when it hosts Stevens Point.

Kate Schilling scored at the 27:20 mark after the Ashwaubenon goalkeeper, Sarah O’Brien, stepped out of the box and couldn’t clear the ball. Schilling dribbled past and scored in the open net to put the Tigers on top.

Marshfield’s 1-0 lead held until when Courtney Meyer scored off an assist from Schilling 7:57 into the second half.

Nina Hashimoto blasted in a goal 12 minutes later, and Nicole Simon finished off the scoring for the Tigers with a goal on a direct kick.

Mikayla Brueggen saved all four shots she saw in goal for the Tigers, earning her third shutout of the season.

“Mikayla has made some nice strides and the work she has put in with goalie coach Jenna Beach is really paying dividends,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “This was a nice team win with four different players scoring and everyone contributing the victory. I like the depth we are developing in all positions, including our deep sweeper where Ana Paape has been outstanding.”
