Marshfield girls basketball falls in season opener to Hortonville

HORTONVILLE – The Marshfield girls basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start and dropped its season opener to Hortonville 59-47 on Thursday night at Hortonville High School.

The Polar Bears pulled out to a 34-20 lead by halftime, and despite playing better in the second half, Marshfield couldn’t overcome the double-digit deficit.

Marshfield shot 57 percent from the field (19 of 33), but committed 22 turnovers in the loss.

Jenna Jakobi had 16 points, and Kaydee Johnson had 11 points and four assists for the Tigers.

Macy McGlone had 22 points, making 10 of 13 shots from the field, to lead Hortonville.

Marshfield will host Rhinelander in another nonconference game Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. in its home opener.
