Marshfield football crushes Wausau West, ends regular season a perfect 9-0

WAUSAU – The Marshfield football team, champions of the Valley Football Association West Division for the second-straight year, cruised past Wausau West 36-6 in its regular-season finale on Friday night at Thom Field.

The Tigers finish the regular season undefeated for the first time since 1999, going a perfect 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the VFA. West ends up 2-7 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

Marshfield is a No. 1 seed in the Division 2 field in the upcoming WIAA playoffs, which begin next Friday, Oct. 19. The Tigers will host Ashwaubenon in a Level 1 game at 7 p.m. at Beell Stadium. The game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.

Marshfield put up 22 points in the first half quarter and led 29-0 by halftime on its way to the rout.

Ryan Krueger had an 11-yard touchdown run, and threw TD passes of 12 yards to Caden Pearce and 15 yards to Brant Bohman in the first half. Bohman also had a 9-yard touchdown run for Marshfield as it built the big lead.

Marshfield’s final score came on a 56-yard punt return by Isaac Meverden in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers’ defense was stout as usual, allowing just 142 total yards.

Bohman led the offense with 65 yards rushing and 103 yards receiving on five catches. Krueger finished with 155 passing yards, but threw three interceptions.
