Marshfield Fire & Rescue responded to a 2nd story structure fire on S. Cedar Ave. after a call came in shortly after 8 a.m. to report smoke in a building.

According to Deputy Chief Jody Clements, two fire engines and an ambulance responded and the bedroom mattress fire was knocked down. At the time of arrival, the occupants had evacuated and no medical transports were needed.

The fire is an open investigation but the preliminary determination of the cause is a reckless use of smoking materials. As part of the fire department’s investigation, it was found that no smoke detectors were in the house. Deputy Chief Jody Clements stated it was very lucky that the fire was detected when it was, otherwise the house would have gone up in flames.

The incident marks the 2nd red bulb for the Keep the Wreath Green campaign.
