Five Marshfield FCCLA students recently competed at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference held in downtown Nashville, TN from July 1 – 6, 2017.
FCCLA, which stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a co-curricular organization that aims to help youth form connections, promote personal growth and gain career experience in Family and Consumer Sciences. The theme for the FCCLA National Conference was “Unlimited Possibilities.”
In order for the students to qualify for the National Competition, they needed to get the top score in his/her event at the State Competition held in April 2017. The following students competed against nearly 7,000 FCCLA members from across the United States.
Not only did these five representatives earn medals in their respective categories, they also gained career and leadership skills while attending the conference. Seniors, Tara and Tiffany Guden, earned gold awards in Life Event Planning. Alani Carter, Grade 8, earned a bronze award in Promote and Publicize FCCLA.
Grade 7 contestants, Simone Chaney and Cierra MacArthur, earned a silver award on their Illustrated Talk – a demonstration speech they gave using the USDA “My Plate” to promote healthy eating.
The Marshfield FCCLA team is coached by Ms. Carla MacArthur, Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Marshfield High School, and Ms. Samantha Will, Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Marshfield Middle School.
