Marshfield – The Common Council voted 6-4 Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at their regular Common Council meeting to open up City facilities and resume services on Monday, June 1, 2020, after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision not include the police and fire departments, the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library, or Marshfield Utilities. The library plans to reopen to the public on Friday, May 29 with precautions in place.

City Administrator Steve Barg outlined a detailed plan to the Council to open up City facilities with precautions set in place. According to Barg, facility management staffs are already in the process of making the necessary arrangements.

“We look forward to reopening our buildings and facilities to the public but we are committed to making sure that we protect the health and safety of the staff and citizens,” said Barg.

City departments will follow the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations, such as practicing social distancing, washing hands and providing safety measures for both the public and staff at each of their sites, which was also recommended by several members of the Council during the meeting.

The City staff is recommending visitors who enter City facilities and use services to adhere to the rules that will be posted at each establishment, said Barg. Despite the pandemic many of the City services have continued such as providing building permits, building inspections and public meetings.
