Marshfield boys swimming opens season with win at Wisconsin Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield boys swim team opened its 2018-19 season with an 88-82 victory over Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday at Lincoln High School in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet.

Marshfield won six events, including two each by Myles Jensen and Jacob Dick.

Jensen won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.03 and the 500 freestyle in 5:25.91, and Dick took first in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.36 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.27.

Jeffrey Berres won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.19, and the Tigers’ 400 freestyle relay team of Jeffrey Berres, Connor Berres, Ethan Dagit and Jensen won in 3:45.87.

Dagit was second in both the 50 freestyle (23.50) and the 100 freestyle (54.11), Jeffrey Berres took second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.21), and Connor Berres was second in the 500 freestyle (6:12.33) as well for Marshfield. The Tigers also finished second in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Nathan Scheunemann was part of four of the five wins for Wisconsin Rapids. He took first in the 50 freestyle (23.41) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.27), and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:54.79) and 200 freestyle relay (1:40.40) teams.

Jackson Benda won the 100 freestyle (53.26) for the Raiders’ other win, and he was also on both winning relay teams.

Marshfield hosts Stevens Point in its home opener on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
