Marshfield boys hockey pulls past Merrill/Wausau East

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield put away a victory with four goals in a two-minute span of the third period and won 7-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game against Merrill/Wausau East on Tuesday night at the Marshfield Ice Arena.

The Tigers led 3-0 after Nick Urban scored early in the first period, and Isaac Wellens and Nate Boson added goals in the second.

Merrill/Wausau East cut into the lead with a goal late in the second period and the Tigers’ maintained their 3-1 lead until late in the game when their offense exploded.

Urban, Ben Lawyer, Isaiah Baierl and Wellens all scored between the 14:38 and 16:54 marks to put the game out of reach.

Ryan Krueger finished with three assists for Marshfield, which improves to 14-6 overall and 5-3 in the WVC.

Marshfield plays at D.C. Everest on Thursday.
