Presentation at Friday’s Wrestling Match in Honor of Tyler Manthe

By Jason Zaleski – On August 5th, 2017, 21-year-old Tyler Manthe was his group’s designated driver for the night. Manthe, a 2014 graduate of Marshfield High School, was on his way home when a drunk driver crossed the center line and collided with Manthe’s vehicle. He was pronounced dead just hours later at St Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

While at Marshfield Senior High, Tyler was a 4-year letter winner on the school’s wrestling team. In memory of Tyler, his parents, Cory and Gidget Tobin, will be giving a $600 donation to the school for the wresting club. They have also created a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to a Marshfield Senior High senior wrestler that has chosen their college for 2018.

“He really loved wrestling and we wanted to do something in honor of him, something that he really liked to do,” said Gidget Tobin. “We wanted to honor Tyler’s love of wrestling with this donation and scholarship.”

For those interested in applying for the scholarship, contact Marshfield Senior High athletic director, Nathan DeLaney. The eventual scholarship winner will be chosen by the Tobin family and will be announced in May.

A presentation of the donation and scholarship announcement will be made in-between the JV and Varsity wresting match at Marshfield High School’s Boson Fieldhouse on Friday, January 5 at approximately 6:00pm.

A plaque, donated by Burt Trophy and Awards, will also be presented by the family to the wrestling club during the presentation.

Watch the meet, which starts at 5pm, and the special presentation live on Friday at focusonmarshfield.com/sports.
