Update: The department has issued a correction. In the release, the operator’s name was previously identified as James, not Joshua.

On Sunday, Sept. 22 at 7:22 p.m., Wood County Dispatch received a call of an ATV crash on Swiggum Lane in the Township of Seneca.

When deputies arrive on scene, they located the male operator who had been ejected from the ATV. No other passengers were located near the crash scene. Life saving measures were performed on the ATV operator. The operator was later transported via Life Link to Marshfield Medical Center.

The condition of the operator, 27 year-old Joshua Philip Doherty, is unknown at this time. The initial investigation indicated the vehicle was attempting to negotiate a curve, lost control, and the operator was ejected. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Nekoosa Police Department, United Ambulance Service, Port Edwards Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources.
