Loyal Student-Athlete Matthew Szymanski: Loves the Hometown Crowd, Student Section Support

Loyal (OnFocus) – Loyal Greyhound Matthew Szymanski is a three sport athlete who has excelled for Loyal in his four year career. Well known for his accomplishments as a durable and rugged running back for Loyal, Szymanski’s efforts in all sports are impressive.

We caught up with Szymanski with our world-famous interview, ‘Pancakes or Waffles?’ to learn more about the standout student-athlete within and beyond the world of sports.

OnFocus: What classes are you taking this year?

Szymanski: I am taking Honors English, Senior Investing, Band, Business, Welding, and Advanced Auto, just to name a few.

OnFocus: What is your favorite class?

Szymanski: I really enjoy the technical classes, such as welding and auto.

OnFocus: What are your hobbies?

Szymanski: I enjoy hunting, fishing, truck and tractor pulls, and being outside.

OnFocus: Who is/was your favorite teacher?

Szymanski: My favorite teacher is Mr. Schiller because he teaches well, but makes classes
enjoyable to be in.

OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Szymanski: Poutine, and it was delicious.

OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?

Szymanski: Hard Rock, preferably Five Finger Death Punch.

OnFocus: What are your plans after high school?

Szymanski: I plan to attend Mid-State Technical College for Diesel and Heavy Equipment
Technician.

OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?

Szymanski: Dumb Adventures with Matthew.

OnFocus: What sports do you play?

Szymanski: I play Football, Basketball, and Baseball.

OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted
island?

Szymanski: I wouldn’t want to be stuck with Lupe because he would eat all the available food without sharing.

OnFocus: What is your most memorable moment as an athlete?

Szymanski: I feel the most memorable moment was when I got 1,000 rushing yards in our football season. I could not have gotten this achievement without my team.

OnFocus: Who is your favorite athlete?

Szymanski: Christian McCaffrey.

OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about playing home games?

Szymanski: I love the hometown crowd and student sections yelling at the top of their lungs.

OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at Loyal?

Szymanski: The best thing about being a student athlete at Loyal is the support by all the teachers and staff, both academically and sports.

OnFocus: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?

Szymanski: Never take a sport for granted. Appreciate the team and the lessons you learn while participating in the sports.
