Weekend Recap – Local Sports

This past Saturday was a huge day for local sports teams.

Starting right away in the morning as the Stratford Tiger Wrestling Team won their State Semifinal Match against Random Lake 52-13. Stratford Winners A.J. Schoenfuss (120) by decision; Jeremy Schoenherr (138), Kamren Bornback (220) by major decision; Derek Marten (126) by Technical Fall; and Manny Drexler (106), Jake Drexler (132), Mason Kauffman (152), David Marquardt (160), Aiden Hoffman (195) and Ethan Fabry (285) all by Pin.

The next event of the day saw the Loyal Greyhound Girls Basketball team advance to their first state tournament by beating Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran 72-44. They will face Bangor in the WIAA State Tournament Semifinals Friday morning at approximately 10:45AM that game will be available on WAOW TV 9 or WQOW News 18.

After that came the Stratford State Title Match against Fennimore, who they had lost to the previous season. Stratford won that match 49-13. Stratford Winners Kade Ehrike (160), Aiden Hoffman (195) and Tyson Kauffman (285) by decision; Jake Drexler (132) by Sudden Victory in OT; A.J. The last events of the night were three Boys Basketball Regional Finals:

First in Division 1 as the Marshfield Tigers made a last second shot by Ethan Posteluk to beat Neenah 70-69 they advance to the Sectional Semifinals against the Oshkosh North. That game is at 6:30PM on Thursday at Appleton North High School.

Then in Division 4 the Stratford Tigers beat the Auburndale Apaches 72-63 in two overtimes. That game saw the Tigers go on a 9-0 run to send the game into overtime. The Tigers will face Neillsville, who beat #1 seeded Marathon 58-57, in a Sectional Semifinal game at D.C. Everest High School Thursday night at 7:00PM.

Finally in Division 5 the Columbus Dons got a strong performance to beat the Loyal Greyhounds 69-47 in the third meeting between these two teams this year. The #1 seeded Dons will take on Almond-Bancroft Thursday night at Stevens Point Area High School in their Sectional Semifinal.
