OnFocus – Though it wasn’t a traditional Halloween this year, one local family made a new Halloween tradition that gives back to those in need. Along with handing out candy in a socially-distant fashion, Trisha Mayer and her children, Emma and Dylan, also collected items for Soup or Socks Food Pantry and Clothes Closet at their Marshfield home.

“We were not comfortable with traditional trick or treat this year, but I still wanted to make it fun for my kids, Emma and Dylan,” said Mayer. “I saw on Pinterest about the candy chutes, so my husband Rod helped and we made some!”

The kids enjoyed distributing candy through the chutes, but especially enjoyed collecting canned food items for those in need. Mayer had posted the SOS Wish List on Facebook in the week leading up to Halloween to help get the word out to her friends and community.

“Soup or Socks is my favorite organization, and I knew if I got the word out, we could easily get them some much needed food donations,” said Mayer. “We collected over 300 items and $50.00 cash.”

The pandemic might have changed their Halloween plans, but the Mayer family’s action prove that good can come out of any situation.

“My children had one of their best Halloweens ever!” said Mayer. “Thank you to everyone who stopped by and contributed!”
