MARSHFIELD – Two long scoring droughts were enough to sink the Marshfield girls basketball team and send it to its third-straight loss.

Hudson used a 13-0 run in the first half to erase an early Tigers’ lead, then had an 11-0 run late in the game to put away a 62-46 victory in a first-round game at the Marshfield Tigers Girls Basketball Invitational on Thursday night at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield (3-7) started the game strong, scoring the first eight points on four free throws by Kaydee Johnson and baskets from Brooklyn Boushack and Jenna Jakobi.

A hoop by Bailey Matis gave the Tigers a 12-5 lead 6 minutes into the game, but the Tigers would not score for more than 7 minutes and Hudson (5-3) took advantage.

The Raiders scored 13 points in a row and a layup by Sophia Jonas gave them an 18-12 lead with 5½ minutes to go before halftime. They would never trail again.

Marshfield made six free throws and Maddie Michaelis hit a 3-pointer to help the Tigers close to within three at 28-25 at halftime.

Hudson led by six on five different occasions before Marshfield closed to within a point at 41-40 on a 3-pointer from Michaelis, her fourth of the game, with 8:02 remaining.

From there, the Raiders were able to run past the Tigers, scoring at will.

Hudson put together an 11-0 run during the next 3½ minutes, to put the game away.

Audrey Hatfield scored twice, Jonas hit a 3-pointer and Livi Bolly had a basket and two free throws to put Hudson on top 60-42, closing out a 19-2 run.

Marshfield shot just 32 percent overall (16-for-49), missing eight of nine shots in big Hudson run before making two baskets late.

Jonas finished with a game-high 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting for the Raiders.

Johnson and Michaelis each had 12 points for Marshfield.

The tournament continues Friday with Hudson taking on Wausau West at 1:30 p.m. and Marshfield playing Oshkosh North at 3:15 p.m. Oshkosh North defeated Wausau West 84-73 in the opening game Thursday.
