Mosinee (OnFocus)  – Mosinee squared off with Eau Claire North in non-conference action on Saturday. A two-hour drive and different divisions (North is in Division 1, Mosinee is in Division 3) make a game like this a unique occurrence. Mosinee challenged North from the start and created multiple opportunities for the win.

Toren Holtz and Jaeger Dhein both had opportunities on frame early in the game, but Eau Claire’s keeper kept his scoreboard clean. However, Mosinee had a clear advantage in possession and it seemed like just a matter of time before a Mosinee goal. Toren Holtz broke through with the first one at 10”, assisted by Cole Holtz. Toren added another tally at 14”, assisted by Jaeger Dhein.

Just 5 minutes before halftime Dhein got his own score after a rebound off the North keeper. That score at halftime was Mosinee 3, Eau Claire North 0.

The second half started with Mosinee continuing to control the game. Mosinee worked the ball up the sideline with the help of Ondrej Napravik and Thomas Miller running the outside down to the corner. The outside runs created space in the middle and that is where Cole Holtz was waiting to finish the play, after an assist from Garret Donohue.

Toren Holtz added one more goal to his total from a Thomas Miller assist, giving him a hat trick, at 59”. With a 5-goal lead, Mosinee settled into a possession game and were mostly successful in limiting North’s opportunities. Ben Harris preserved the shutout when at least two times North got game play deep into Mosinee’s penalty area, but Ben stood tall in the goal with two dramatic saves. Mosinee finished with a 5-0 victory.

Statistics of note: Mosinee finished with 16 shots on goal, Eau Claire North had 2

Mosinee returns to action on Tuesday, September 14, with a key Great Northern Conference game vs. Rhinelander.
