OnFocus (Marshfield) – On Saturday, June 12, a call was placed at 4:10 a.m. to the Marshfield Police Department indicating that a traffic sign had been on the 2800 block of South Central Ave.

Officers were dispatched to the scene where they observed the sign that was struck and saw no indication that the driver who hit the sign was around.

The officers found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned a few blocks away on West 29th Street and saw there was significant damage to the front of the vehicle. They also observed a half-drank, open Miller Lite can in the driver’s side door.

It was later learned that a 20-year-old Chili male was the driver of the vehicle. Police made contact with the suspect and confirmed that he was driving the vehicle when the incident occurred. The suspect told police that he had been drinking at a friend’s house and was very intoxicated when he decided he wanted to take her car home.

The man stated he was driving southbound when the incident occurred and that there was no one else with him at the time of the accident. Citations were issued for: Possession of Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, Hit-and-Run – Property Adjacent to Highway and Unsafe Lane Deviation.
