Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) The outlook of a successful private fundraising campaign for replacing Hefko Pool is optimistic, a study found.

A feasibility study conducted by the Sweeney Group looked at the need for a new pool, plans for a new facility, reaction to the City’s challenge grant, the amount that could be raised privately, volunteer leadership, potential donors, and strategies for successful fundraising.

“Our project has been moving along, albeit not as fast as people would like. We wanted to explore every option and evaluate everything,” said Justin Casperson, Parks & Recreation Director.

Those involved with early planning thought there may be donor fatigue given the number of capital campaigns that have taken place in the community in recent years, such as the YMCA, athletic facility, library, and cougar exhibit projects.

“I’m very pleased to tell you just the opposite is true. People throughout the community are extremely proud of the changes that have occurred in Marshfield because of all these new facilities,” said Jodi Sweeney, stating that these projects are seen as improving quality of life and attracting businesses and employees to the area.

According to the study, $3 million in private fundraising can be raised toward the $6 million project. A newly formed campaign planning committee will meet for 3-4 months. Several community leaders have agreed to join an honorary committee that will endorse the project.

From there, the committee will identify potential donors.

“People love the idea that they swam here as children, they brought their children to the pool, and now they want to pay it forward,” said Sweeney.

The capital campaign will commence Spring 2019, hopefully raise significant funds this summer, and conclude in 12-14 months. Marshfield Area Community Foundation will assist with fundraising.

The current Hefko Pool dates to 1934. In August 2017, Common Council voted to keep the pool in its current location at 1805 S Roddis Ave. In October 2018, the council approved a $3 million dollar-for-dollar challenge grant.
