Marshfield (OnFocus) – At the June 23 meeting of the City of Marshfield Common Council, Parks & Recreation Director Justin Casperson formally announced that the Marshfield Outdoor Aquatic Center had reached its fundraising goal of $3 million.

“I just want to take this opportunity to make the formal announcement that the Marshfield Outdoor Aquatic Center Fundraising Committee has successfully reached their financial goal,” said Casperson. “This is a very monumental task in a relatively short amount of time. I cannot be more proud of the committee and the community for coming together to complete the private fundraising campaign.”

Casperson said that given the aggressive fundraising schedule and campaign during a pandemic, their efforts were especially impressive.

“This reinforces the importance of the project and the support it received from the donors,” he said. (TAKE A VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE NEW CENTER HERE.)

A groundbreaking and name reveal is scheduled for July 8, 2020 at noon, with an anticipated grand opening date of Summer 2021.

Council members also discussed how and when to borrow money to start the pool construction. With the current budget constraints, Capital Improvement Projects are already on a limited budget. They discussed splitting the borrowing amount from the City over two years or whether to go out for bid to see if the bids are favorable.

Unless the City goes out for bid soon, the probability of construction being finished by summer 2021 is unlikely. Watch the meeting here.
