Police investigation of railroad incident shows accidental hit-and-run

OnFocus – Friday morning a vehicle struck two service poles at the corner of East Veterans Parkway and Maple Street.

The poles that were hit laid over the train tracks until a train came and struck the debris.

The corner of Maple Avenue and Veterans Parkway along with intersections at Vine Avenue, Central Avenue and Chestnut Avenue were all blocked for a time as crews came to inspect the damage to the train and railroad.

According to the police report, officials didn’t initially have a suspect in the damage. Upon further investigation, Marshfield Police used a nearby security camera to find the motorist who hit the poles.

The report said a semi was making a right turn at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Veterans Parkway when it struck the poles. The driver continued down the street.

The report stated that officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle and he said he didn’t realize he had hit anything until he got to his destination and was unloading his cargo.

Repairs of the traffic poles continued into the night on Friday.
