Five-run sixth inning pushes Marshfield softball past Wisconsin Rapids

MARSHFIELD – Courtney Donahue struck out 12 and Jordan Pretsch went 3-for-3 to help lift the Marshfield softball team to a 9-4 win over Wisconsin Rapids in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Marshfield pulled out to a 4-1 lead after two innings before the Raiders rallied to tie the game with a three-run fifth.

Marshfield responded with a five-run sixth and Donahue sent the Raiders down in the seventh to finish off the victory.

The Tigers are now 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Rapids falls to 6-7 and 5-3 in the WVC.

Wisconsin Rapids had five doubles and 11 total hits against Donahue, but she was able to wiggle out of trouble – with the exception of the fifth inning – with 12 strikeouts and earned the win.

Jenna Jakobi, Loryn Jakobi, Taylor Barwick and Rhiannon Corozolla each had two hits, and Madalen Bornbach had three RBIs and a double for the Tigers.

Allison Martin was 3-for-4, with Megan Clary, Alyssa Banta, McKenzie Pyburn and Abby Look each having two hits for Rapids.

Marshfield plays a doubleheader at Merrill on Thursday.
