Fatal Traffic Accident on Hwy 73

Town of Rome (OnFocus) Wood County Central Dispatch recieved a request for assistance with a traffic crash on State Highway 73 on Tuesday at 2:00 AM. The accident involving a single vehicle took place at State Hwy 73 at 7th Drive in the Town of Rome. All lanes on WIS 73, both northbound and southbound are closed from Oak St to County U.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on State Highway 73 and negotiating the curve at 7th Drive. The vehicle left the roadway on the south side of State Highway 73. Striking a driveway embrankment, the vehicle was airborne for a short distance until coming to a rest.

There was two occupants in the vehicle. One individual was pronouced deceased at the scene. The second occupant was transported by Spirit Helicopter to Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Town of Rome Police Department is handling the crash investigation and being assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit. State Hwy 73 is closed due to this crash between County U and Oak Street in Wood County.

At this time the crash is still under investigation. The names have not been released.

Detour:
Southbound traffic will exit onto Oak St and take Oak st east to County U. Then take County U south back onto WIS 73.
Northbound traffic will reverse this detour.
