Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Wood County

TOWN OF PORT EDWARDS, WI (OnFocus) – On September 16, 2022 at 2:26 a.m. Wood County Central Dispatch received the report of a motorcycle crash on STH 54 near Green Grove Ln in the Township of Port Edwards, Wood County.

Initial investigation revealed a motorcycle was traveling westbound on STH 54 approaching Green Grove Ln. A vehicle traveling westbound behind the motorcycle struck the motorcycle’s back end. The operator of the motorcycle was ejected. Wood County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene along with emergency medical personnel.

The motorcycle operator suffered serious injuries and lifesaving measures were provided. He was pronounced deceased on scene. The crash is under investigation by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department and is also being reconstructed by the Wisconsin State Patrol. Alcohol is believed to be a factor of the crash.

Wood County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by Wood County Sheriff’s Rescue, Township First Responders, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Port Edwards Fire, Nekoosa Police Department, Wood County Coroners Office and Wisconsin State Patrol. STH 54 was closed for several hours between Port Road and County Highway G due to the crash. STH 54 will still be closed for a few hours. The planned detour is CTH G, Wilhorn and State Highway 73.
