(OnFocus) The Marshfield Area United Way and Soup or Socks have partnered up to provide emergency food boxes for families who need assistance while schools are closed due to COVID-19.

Gov. Evers mandated the statewide closure of all K-12 schools starting this week to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Wisconsin. As of Monday afternoon, there were 46 active cases in Wisconsin as reported by the DHS, including 1 case in Wood County.

“At United Way we have been working all weekend with Soup or Socks to figure out how we can provide food to families in need in our area,” said Ashley Winch, Executive Director of Marshfield Area United Way.

Each box has enough food to feed a family of four for a week, and also provides essentials such as toilet paper and garbage bags. Food boxes are available to Marshfield residents and the surrounding communities of Auburndale, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Pittsville, Neillsville, Spencer and Stratford.

Donations help with the cost of providing this service. Community members can sponsor a family for $90.

Volunteers are needed to help deliver food boxes to those who are unable to come during the hours listed or where transportation is a barrier.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can send it to Marshfield Area United Way, PO Box 771, Marshfield, WI 54449. Visit marshfieldareaunitedway.org to make a secure donation online.

Starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020, food boxes can be picked up at Soup or Socks from 12-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9-12 p.m. on Fridays.

Those unable to get to the pantry during those hours or don’t have transportation can contact United Way at 715-384-9992.

Soup or Socks is located at 200 S Lincoln Ave in Marshfield.
