Driver Leads Officers on Chase through Two Counties

WOOD COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) – On July 23rd at 4:08pm, Wood County Dispatch Center received a call of a driver passed out behind the steering wheel of a vehicle located at the intersection of Kimball Ave and STH 173 in the Township of Port Edwards.

The car left that scene before officers could inspect. Nekoosa Police Department was later able to locate the vehicle in their jurisdiction. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver of the vehicle fled from law enforcement. The vehicle continued for 37 miles through Wood County and Juneau County before the vehicle crashed on private property in the town of Port Edwards. Both the driver and passenger received minor injuries and were taken into custody after receiving medical attention.

Charges will be requested through the Wood County District Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of the investigation. Potential charges include Felony Fleeing an Officer, Operating While Intoxicated-Causing Injury, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine, Recklessly Endangering Safety, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, as well as numerous traffic citations.

Assisting the Nekoosa Police Department and the Wood County Sheriff’s Department
were Pittsville Ambulance, Nekoosa Ambulance, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Port
Edwards first responders, and Niemen’s Towing Service.
