City Communicates OnFocus – The Marshfield Common Council heard recommendations from the latest Communications Committee.

The members of this committee where Tom Buttke from the Board of Public Works, Nick Poeschel from the Finance Budget and Personnel Committee, Mayor Bob McManus, Marissa Stienbach from the Cable TV Committee, Police Chief Rick Gramza and two citizens Bill Penker and Don Nystrom.

The recommendation that passed 6-0 with one member absent was to hire a Communications Specialist and an assistant. The proposed job responsibilities would include running up to all three of Marshfield’s community access stations, managing the city’s web and social media presence, and writing and distributing press releases from the city.

“We’re currently planning on spending $276,073,” said McManus. “We could actually go down to $203,850, thereby saving $72,000 a year and yet we’re adding service.”

The council voted unanimously to send the issue to the Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee for further discussion.
