MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The City of Marshfield Common Council made a 2.5 percent tax increase for 2022 official on Tuesday as they passed the annual budget.

The motion to approve the budget passed by a majority vote of 6-2 with Alderman Adam Fischer and Alderwoman Rebecca Spiros voting against the proposed budget.

No discussion was held about the budget at Tuesday’s meeting but in October, Fischer stated he was against raising taxes in the event that the Marshfield Clinic lawsuit is lost by the City.

“I could not in good conscience vote to approve passing on a budget with a 2.5% increase to a public hearing when a tax lawsuit with the Marshfield Clinic Health System is looming and our city administrator admits that even with possible service cuts, it would require further tax increases to sustain such a loss from the Marshfield Clinic Health System being tax exempt,” Fischer said at the October meeting.
