Columbus Catholic boys basketball sinks 14 3-pointers, grabs road win at Auburndale

AUBURNDALE – Marshfield Columbus Catholic was on fire from long range, drilling 14 3-pointers on its way to a 73-54 victory over Auburndale in a nonconference boys basketball game Monday night at Auburndale High School.

The Dons built a 35-24 lead by halftime and outscored the Apaches by eight in the second half to prevail by 19.

Columbus Catholic is now 5-0 this season, while Auburndale drops to 2-1.

Jarred Mandel hit five 3-pointers and Noah Taylor sank three from long range as both finished with 20 points to lead the Dons.

Bryce Fuerlinger added 12 points and Ethan Meece had nine for Columbus.

Auburndale shot just 30 percent from the field (18 of 60) and were 6 of 25 from 3-point range.

Colton Wright made all seven of his free throw attempts and scored a team-high 19 for the Apaches. Cooper Weinfurter added 14 points in the loss.

Columbus Catholic plays at Granton on Thursday and Auburndale returns to action Friday at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
