COLBY – Ashley Streveler and Alyssa Underwood combined for 17 points in the first half as Colby opened up a slight lead and the Hornets held on from there, beating Stratford 41-36 in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday night at Colby High School.

The game pitted the leaders of the Cloverbelt Conference East Division in Colby, and the Marawood Conference South Division co-leader Stratford.

Streveler had all nine of her points, and Underwood had eight of her 11 in the first half as Colby (14-0) built a 25-20 lead by halftime.

Stratford (10-4) made only three baskets from the field in the second half, all three-pointers, but hung in the game by making 7 of 8 free throws, however it was not enough.

Callie Lehman and Macie Schillinger each finished with eight points, and Blaire Lindner added seven for the Tigers.

Hailey Voelker tallied nine of her game-high 14 points in the second half for Colby.

Colby hosts Gilman on Thursday, and Stratford returns to action Friday at Abbotsford.
