Pittsville head football coach Mark Denniston is looking to replace positions on both sides of the ball, but expectations for the team remain the same.

“We lost a fair number of seniors from last year’s team, but we still feel like this year that we expect to compete for a conference championship,” Denniston said. Sam Hardinger is projected to be the starting quarterback for the Panthers, while Tyler Gardner and Ryan Zickert are also expected to help lead the team at other positions. “We have some guys, especially our incoming seniors, that are hungry for their chance and eager to prove that they can be successful in their own right as well,” Denniston said. Pittsville kicks off its season at home on Friday, Aug. 17, against Auburndale and will be broadcast on Zaleski Sports live.

Senior Sam Hardinger expects the team to compete for a conference title and improve throughout the Fall as he heads into his final season with the team.

“I feel that this year is the year for our younger guys to step up and showcase what they’ve worked for over the last couple of years,” Hardinger said. Hardinger has switched positions on offense from tight end to quarterback and sees himself as a leader on the team. “I really want to be successful at the new spot and be a good role model on the team for the underclassman,” Hardinger said.
